Clearview AI is a private company that has amassed a database of more than 20 billion facial images and faceprints as part of a massive face recognition system. Under a binding legal settlement in ACLU v. Clearview AI, Clearview has agreed to maintain an online form allowing Illinois residents to block their facial data from Clearview’s database.

If you are an Illinois resident, you can protect your privacy by blocking yourself from Clearview’s facial recognition database. Doing so is simple.

To block your facial data from Clearview’s database, you only need to affirm that you are an Illinois resident, provide a working email address, and upload a photo of your face. You do not need to provide any ID document, or even your name. You will then receive a confirmation email, where you must click a link to confirm that the email is yours.

Clearview will use your uploaded photo to search for any other photos of you in its database, and to block them from showing up when Clearview’s users (including police) conduct face recognition searches of its database.

To protect your privacy, the binding settlement agreement prohibits Clearview from using your photo for any purpose other than blocking your facial data from its searchable database.
